OK so I got my Nexus One last Tuesday and I have to say it really is an amazing phone. I have a few friends who have the iPhone 3G and they’ve played with the Nexus One and say it’s better then their phone…

I’ve been an Android user from the first day the G1 came out, and although my old G1 wasn’t very powerful or cool, it was quite stable and capable. The new Nexus One just blows the G1 out of the water; it’s fast (very fast) at everything, the screen is huge and has a resolution of 800 x 480 which looks simply beautiful, the 5MP camera with it’s LED flash takes great pics and you can use it at night too and Google’s new android version 2.1 AKA Eclair is really cool, I especially like the Live wallpaper feature and the talk to text feature(instead of having to write everything you can just press a button, talk and the Nexus writes for you).

On the down side of the Nexus is as i see it one thing–the built-in memory size. The reason it is a problem is because Android doesn’t let you install any application onto the SD card. Whatever application you want to install onto the device has to go on the built in memory which is only 512 for the flash and 512 for the ram, I think though am not sure that you start the device with about 200mb for applications. This is plenty for somebody who doesn’t plan on doing serious gaming. If you do plan on games, then you have a problem since games consume more space then eBuddy for example (which is a great instant messaging app).
One more negative i just realized is the app market which is much smaller then the iPhone’s one, I however don’t really feel like I’m missing anything except for the Mint.com app which i kinda want to try.

Conclusion:

If you’re not a gamer but a business man or just somebody who’s not into games go and order a Nexus one now! (did I mention I love it?) Otherwise the iPhone 3gs is probably a better choice.

Plea for Google: Please enable us to install apps to the SD card!

Google announced that it is working on a new operating system for personal computers, which is seen as the Internet Company’s latest attempt to challenge Microsoft Corp.’s dominance on the computer software market.

Google Announces Google Chrome OS Coming soon

“We designed Google Chrome for people who live on the web — searching for information, checking email, catching up on the news, shopping or just staying in touch with friends. However, the operating systems that browsers run on were designed in an era where there was no web. So today, we’re announcing a new project that’s a natural extension of Google Chrome — the Google Chrome Operating System. It’s our attempt to re-think what operating systems should be.”

They said that low-cost laptops called netbooks running the new Chrome Operating System will be available sometime in the 2nd half of 2010 for consumer use. The system is designed and created for people who spend most of their time on the internet. The new Chrome OS will be able to power small netbooks all the way to full size desktop computers.

“Google Chrome OS will run on both x86 as well as ARM chips and we are working with multiple OEMs to bring a number of netbooks to market next year. The software architecture is simple — Google Chrome running within a new windowing system on top of a Linux kernel. For application developers, the web is the platform. All web-based applications will automatically work and new applications can be written using your favorite web technologies. And of course, these apps will run not only on Google Chrome OS, but on any standards-based browser on Windows, Mac and Linux thereby giving developers the largest user base of any platform.”

Simplicity, speed, and security sum up the aspects that Google is focusing Chrome around. They also want to point out that Chrome OS will be a completely separate project from the Android operating system for mobile phones and other small electronics.
Check Out the Official Google Chrome OS Blog.

In other Google News, Google recently announced that is officially removing the “beta” tag from Gmail and other popular applications. This move comes after a 5 year beta testing period, and Google said that it is removing the tag to let enterprise and corporate customers use their service without the uncertainty that comes with a beta title.

The enterprise and consumer versions of Google Calendar, Google Docs, and Google Talk are also being relieved of their beta tag and are officially out of testing mode.
